Directed By: John Landis

Written By: Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, Jerry Zucker

Staring: (too many)

I’m all over the place with this flick. Some of the bits were genius while other bits had that bad SNL/South Park feeling of “ok, we get the joke, can we move on now?” but it doesn’t move on and keeps going and going.

The Kentucky Fried Movie was the first big movie for the Zucker Bros/Abrahams writing team, who later went on to make Naked Gun and Airplane. If that doesn’t tell you the tone of the movie then I will say that taking ridilin won’t help you feel as if you have ADD while watching it. The movie has no running story or a running anything for that matter. It’s is a pure breakneck scene after scene with a huge JPM(jokes per minute)

Some are pure gold and other’s horrible but I can imagine what this must have been like to see in the theatre in 1977 and flooring audiences, especially kids. There are tits and swears all over the place in the movie. The shit is pure shock value although it seems pretty average by today’s standards. In a parody of Bruce Lee movies the guy with the claw is seen with a dildo on his arm. Yeah, I laughed. There are a lot of guilty laughs in the movie where you laugh and then think, “man why did I laugh that was really bad”

But that’s the type of movie this is. I would recommend watching it inebriated. But it’s definitely in that sector of “you will either love this movie or hate it’s guts” sort of in the same line as Monty Python movies. Regardless, it does have a great opening scene.
